Brighten Up Project When Paul and Yvonne Holcombe of HDL decided its community support initiative for 2009 would be the ‘brighten up’ project, Resene offered its wholehearted support. It was decided that HDL would paint one room every two months for someone over 65 who owned and lived in their own home and who would not normally be in a financial position to redecorate. North Shore Age Concern advertised the project in the local paper and oversaw the selection process with all prospective recipients going into a draw. The first winner, Joan Guest (85) was treated to lunch and fl owers while her dining room, kitchen and cupboards were painted in her chosen colours of Resene Quarter Spanish White (light neutral) and Resene Symphony (willowy green) with donated paint from Resene.  Joan, 85 says she is ‘still on cloud 9’ after her win and best of all, she gets to enjoy her prize every day.
