HDL has combined efforts to help senior citizens brighten up their lives. HDL painters contracts manager Paul Green initiated the Brighten Up project in an effort to enrich the lives of North Shore elderly. A little colour can change people’s lives and Age Concern North Shore has now selected the second Brighten Up project recipient. HDL and other sponsors combine to offer their services to older people in need. All people over 65 years who own and live in their own homes within the North Shore city boundaries are eligible. HDL Step Up

Philanthropy is good for business & HDL challenges other businesses to support local charity groups. HDL started supporting the StepUp Foundation last year as a gesture of good will and it's had positive impacts on their business.

HDL Contributes monthly to this great cause. World Vision helps transform the lives of the world’s poorest children and families in nearly 100 countries, including the United States. World Vision’s non-profit work extends assistance to all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, gender, race, or ethnic background.

Resene Paint Wise

More than six litres of household paint is sold each year for each person in New Zealand. That's a lot of paint particularly as much of it is left sitting in paint containers and ends up in landfills. This is why HDL recycles all of its empty paint tins via the Resene paint-wise program. The Resene Paint Wise unwanted paint and paint packaging recovery service, running in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga since 1 September 2005, had donated over 5000 litres of paint to community groups for everything from town beautification through to arts and crafts work, covering unsightly graffiti and repainting horse jumps.
